Hayley Ashfield is a third generation dance teacher with over 30 years of teaching experience across all genres of dance.
She is not only a seasoned studio director but also a respected examiner with the Australian Teachers of Dancing for more than 20 years, examining the following genres - classical ballet, contemporary, jazz, tap, national character, hip hop and musical theatre.
She has been involved in the dance eisteddfod competition world for 45 years starting as a dancer/soloist and as a dance teacher entering students and now as an adjudicator. She has always loved being a part of the competitive dancing community as a soloist, in groups and as a teacher encouraging her students to love and cherish the eisteddfod competition experience.
As an adjudicator, she encourages students to embrace the incredible life skills that are learned including personal growth, stage & theatre etiquette, the camaraderie, dedication, commitment and resilience. Eisteddfod competitions provide and teach young people important skills for life.
Hayley is an Examiner and Licentiate Member of ATOD (Australian Teachers of Dancing), completing examinations up to an Advanced level in Classical Ballet, Jazz and Tap. A QUT graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Dance, she majored in Choreography and Dance Analysis with a focus on Classical Ballet and Contemporary Dance.
After more than 30 inspiring years running a studio in partnership with her mother and then continuing the studio legacy, Hayley now travels Australia examining, coaching, freelance teaching and adjudicating and brings her wealth of knowledge, passion and a deep love for encouraging students to be their very best.
Dance Training/Teaching Experience
Trained with Nicole Ashfield, Ashfield Ballet School and with her grandmother, Avril Binzer
Completed exams to an Advanced level in Classical Ballet, Jazz and Tap - training in the Australian Teachers of Dancing and Royal Academy of Dance systems of training
Successfully auditioned for Bachelor of Arts (Dance) degree, QUT, 1990 and graduated in 1993 with a major in Dance Analysis and Composition/ Choreography
Awarded a Teachers Scholarship by Marilyn Jones OBE (AICD) to attend the Australian Ballet School in 1996 to observe dance teaching practices
Successfully auditioned to be an extra with The Australian Ballet, 1996
Taught for and directed Ashfield Ballet School for 30 years fostering confidence, commitment and dedication in her students as well as a love for dance.
Prepared students for examinations in classical ballet, contemporary, jazz, tap, national character, hip hop
Coached eisteddfod soloists and eisteddfod teams at an award winning level
Prepared and created dance pieces with award winning choreography in all genres
Students have successfully auditioned for prestigious dance institutions, nationally and internationally.
Former students are currently performing and teaching nationally and internationally including contracts with the Moulin Rouge, Royal Caribbean & MSC Cruise lines, Holland America Cruise lines, Universal Studios Japan, Tokyo Disney, Universal Studios Singapore and performed in professional musical theatre productions.
